4 types of auditions EXPLAINED!

Casting director Eileen Mcknight gave me a wonderful piece of information about auditions she said when you go into the audition treat it as it is the job that way you don't come off desperate or needy and you can give your best performance in that audition. Today i want to talk to you about the four types of auditions.

THE GENERAL

The first one is called the general that's when the casting director calls you in for an informal meet and greet they want to know a little bit about you get a little flavor of who you are and see if you're somebody they want to submit for projects even though the generals don't happen so much anymore.

What has taken its place is the casting workshop where you get to go in front of a casting director and do your scene so they get to see what your acting style is and get to see how you look that way if they like you they'll put you on their list to call in when they have a part that's right for somebody like you.

THE PRE-READ

the second one is called the pre-read but don't get confused the pre-read is an actual audition you have to come with your stuff you need to come prepared know the scene know the character and hopefully the script and you do it in front of the casting director or assistant or associate a lot of times they will even tape you and if you're right for it then they'll submit you for a call back.

THE CALLBACK

The third one is the callback also known as the producer or our director session that is when you meet with the whole creative team from the producer to the director along with the casting director for a reading there there you audition in front of everybody sometimes it's as many as 12 people that you're reading for if you make it there sometimes it is the final session but if it's for a big job like a series regular or even the lead of a movie you might have to go to the next audition…

NETWORK/STUDIO TEST

…which is called the network slash studio test it's where the casting director loved you the the director producer and the team loved you but now they have to get approval from the network executives or the studio executives now you have to do it one more time because this is for the big enchilada usually it's for a series regular roll no matter what audition level you get consider yourself very fortunate because you were one of the few actors that actually got in that room and i'll leave you with this years ago casting director eileen mcknight gave me a wonderful piece of information about audition she said when you go into the audition treat it as it is the job that way you don't come off desperate or needy and you can give your best performance in that audition.
